There is a standardized procedure for intravitreal injection of anti-VEGF drugs. Physicians should follow the standard injection protocol to minimize potential complications and facilitate patient recovery.

Administer local anesthesia and instill broad-spectrum antibiotic eye drops.

Disinfect the affected eye and periorbital skin, and cover the eye with a sterile ophthalmic drape.

Place a sterile eyelid speculum under the eyelids.

Instill 5% povidone-iodine solution into the eye and wait for 90 seconds.

Rinse with normal saline.

Mark the injection site 3.5–4 mm from the limbus and insert the needle toward the center of the eyeball.

Slowly inject the medication and withdraw the needle gradually.

After needle removal, apply gentle pressure with a cotton swab at the injection site to prevent reflux.

Instill broad-spectrum antibiotic eye drops.
