Simple, long-term coughing does not directly develop into pneumonia. However, it should be noted that if a patient has persistent cough symptoms that do not improve, such as a cough lasting more than 3 weeks without relief, coughing up purulent sputum, accompanied by fever, chest pain, and shortness of breath, it is important to seek medical attention promptly to avoid delaying the condition.

Additionally, atypical asthma can manifest solely as coughing, which we call cough-variant asthma. Cough-variant asthma is one of the main causes of chronic cough, and the cough referred to here is one that lasts for more than 8 weeks.
